A Flemish painter and engraver, active in Antwerp between 1612 and 1653. Gillis Peeters was primarily a landscape painter who shared his studio with his brother, Bonaventura Peeters. The painting is signed and dated 1640. Within the landscape, a mythological scene with nymphs and satyrs can be distinguished in the central left area and a pastoral scene in the central right area. The work is notable for the typically Italian style of the landscape, the meticulous treatment of the details and the presence of an interesting repertoire of animals and birds.
