Alfonso Reyes (Monterrey, 1889-Mexico City, 1959) began with the stories and chronicles of literary life in the 1920s in Madrid and culminated his maturity in the 1940s in Mexico as an original and highly cultured literary theorist, as well as an essayist in the splendid pages of La experiencia literaria.
This volume brings together the highlights of Alfonso Reyes' prose and essay, structuring the selection around three axes: his link with the Silver Age of Spanish literature, his role as a rethinker of Latin America and his exploration of the literary experience.
Jordi Gracia (Barcelona, 1965), Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Barcelona, was responsible for the prologue and the selection of texts. He is the author of several books on the intellectual and literary history of Spain in the 20th century, including a biography of José Ortega y Gasset, and has prepared two books for the Collection dedicated to Dionisio Ridruejo and Mauricio Bacarisse.
