The foundation is one of the sponsors of the musical season at the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona.
It sponsored performances of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor from 16 to 28 July, one of the most emblematic works in the Romantic opera repertoire, based on Walter Scott's novel, The Bride of Lammermoor.
The Gran Teatre del Liceu offered the original Italian version of the opera with libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, though the peculiar staging was far removed from the stereotypical one normally expected for this work. Barbara Wysocka, the actress and stage manager, set the action in late 1950s America, thereby exploring the psychological dimension of the story in greater depth.
The Orquesta Sinfónica and the Coro del Gran Teatre del Liceu were conducted by Giacomo Sagripanti and Conxita García, respectively. Nadine Sierra, the soprano, and the tenor Javier Camarena sang the principal roles.
